Dr. Kyong Liong Kim (Ph.D., 1986, State University of New York
at Buffalo; Emeritus Professor of Communication,
Mount Vernon Nazarene University)

When Dr. Kyong Liong Kim retired as Professor of Communication from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, he decided he would focus on his passion for drawing and painting. Always someone who leads the “life of the mind”, much of his work focuses on people from the past and present whom he admires.

In 2020 he was stricken with a life-threatening event that lead to his decision to immediately seek a home for his collection of paintings, drawings and sketchbooks so that they would be preserved. He affectionately called these works “The Last Flame”. Thankfully, he has made significant recovery and is drawing again and pursuing his interests in philosophy and Christian theology.

An exhibit of Dr. Kim’s work is on display at the Schnormeier Gallery at Mount Vernon Nazarene University from June 4 to July 2, 2021 through the gracious work of Mount Vernon Art and Design faculty. Dr. Kim wishes to express his heartfelt gratitude to Professor Margaret Allotey-Pappoe (Chair, Department of Art and Design), Professor John Donnelly and Adjunct Faculty Member Laura Tabbut (Chair of the Schnormeier Gallery Committee).
